Artist's Statement
My work focuses on basketball and the culture that surrounds it. As the only female manager for Georgetown Men’s Basketball I have a very unique perspective that shapes how I see the game, the players, and the team environment. Whether courtside or in the studio, I use visual storytelling to explore how athletes are seen and understood.
As a manager, I spend hours each week with my team which has given me an inside perspective on what it means to be a student-athlete at a high-major school. My portrait series, NCAA →NBA, reflects that experience, focusing on the individual athlete. By isolating each subject from their environment, I emphasize identity, presence, and the pressure that comes with performance, while also exploring the transition from college to professional basketball through the use of the split jersey.
My graphic design work draws from the visual language of sports media, creatively exploring different ways to present and brand athletes and teams to a wider audience. My work exists at the intersection of art and athletics, the two worlds that have made me who I am today. My paintings and designs are a way for me to honor the people and experiences that shape my life.
